Lake Whitney Elementary School in Winter Park, FL, is no stranger to Booster. A 3-year partner, they’ve experienced their share of successful Boosterthon Fun Run programs over the years. But like many schools this year, they needed a flexible fundraising for schools program in Florida —one that would not only be safe and fun for students and staff but also profitable for their school.

After talking with their local Booster team, Lake Whitney decided to run our virtual, Boosterthon DanceFit program. 

Boosterthon DanceFit—a fun, new school fundraiser for elementary schools

Created in partnership with Just Dance, the legendary dance video game, Boosterthon DanceFit is a fun, new program that gets students moving and grooving as they raise funds to help their school!

Similar to our classic Boosterthon program, students get donations from family and friends over a two-week period. But instead of ending with a Fun Run, DanceFit culminates in an epicly fun fitness and dance event where students dance, move, and exercise for 35 minutes. Students are led virtually or in-person by Booster’s enthusiastic instructors through group dances and fitness activities.

In case you’re not familiar, Just Dance combines kid-friendly hit music with choreographed dances that teach and challenge dancers to match every step. Combine that with Booster’s enthusiastic and engaging team members, and it’s an experience schools can’t find anywhere else. Plus, this amazing new program can be experienced virtually or in-person.

How Lake Whitney Elementary exceeded their fundraising goal with Boosterthon DanceFit

So how did it go for Lake Whitney Elementary? Did their students and staff enjoy their new fundraiser? And perhaps most importantly, were they able to hit their fundraising goal of $20,000?

We’re thrilled to report that through their Boosterthon DanceFit program, Lake Whitney EXCEEDED their fundraising goal and profited more than $27,000. So, where did those donations come from? With 513 students, LWES needed a program that could reach donors beyond their parent base.

• 56% of all donations came from non-parent donors, like extended family and friends.
• $4,400 of their profit came through Booster’s brand new corporate matching feature. With it, they were able to raise thousands of extra dollars through organizations like United Healthcare, Coca-Cola, Disney, Pepsi, Boeing, Johnson & Johnson, and more.

With those funds, the team at LWES plans to hire a school nurse and provide additional educational resources for students and teachers. 

On top of that, the students and staff had an amazing experience that brought their school together. Immediately after their DanceFit Challenge, Lake Whitney Principal Beth Prince was elated:

“We had the BEST time today…our students rocked it! This is our third year with Booster, and we were unsure of how it would work during this crazy school year! We were so excited to work with Hannah again and the program exceeded our expectations–we absolutely loved the DanceFit Challenge.

When asked what she would say to other schools, Principal Prince had this to say:

“I HIGHLY recommend Booster. Call me if you need a reference!”

Lakeview Elementary has taken advantage of the many fundraising solutions Booster has to offer to really maximize funds raised. The school has hosted fun runs and glow runs as well as a cookie sales fundraiser and created custom gear.

This variety has allowed them to reach more donors as well as attract repeat donors. Because each fundraiser has been a success, Lakeview Elementary and Booster have now been teaming up for four years!

“We tried to kind of go out on our own to raise as much money as we could for our school. It was very difficult. We reached out to Booster and it made everything so smooth and very active for the kids, very active for us. Having the team on site was amazing. So we kind of started off as a trial for the first year and we haven’t looked back,” said Mary Beth Deweese, the PE teacher at Lakeview Elementary.

Part of what has made this partnership work for Lakeview Elementary is the consistency and communication. They appreciate the relationships they have formed with their Booster team and the relationships the Booster team has built with the students and faculty.

“It just makes it so much easier for me when I have a relationship with you, where I can just reach out to you for any question, even throughout the year. If there’s something we need to know, something we can look forward to…it just makes it so much easier when I can just go to you. And you guys are so good at communicating with us.” said Ashley Westbrooks, the school’s PTO President.

Because Lakeview Elementary is an older building, the administration and PTO still have a lot of improvements they would love to tackle and plan on using Booster to reach their goals.

“You guys make the fundraiser aspect of it just so fun. We look forward to it. It doesn’t feel like a job or extra chore to come in and have another thing on our plate to do,” said Westbrooks.

For Booster and Lakeview Elementary, the partnership is easy. That’s because everyone is working towards the same goal—building community while raising funds to enhance the school.

We often share how impactful the funds we raise can be for a school, but our fundraisers can also make such a huge difference in the lives of each student and the community as a whole. Harper’s story is such a great example of that.

Harper loved the annual Booster Fun Run her school put on and even used the custom gear she got each year to dress up for Halloween as a Booster student! We are humbled to say that Booster fundraisers also played a role in the strong athlete Harper has become today.

“She took to it so well. Your energy, your kindness, your love for others inspired Harper…And moreover, you inspired her physical fitness interest,” said Harper’s Dad Travis.

Fast forward to the current day and a grown up Harper happened to be in Atlanta near Booster headquarters. Her dad asked her what  she would like to do with the little free time she had before flying off to compete in an event. Harper said, “Go see the Booster team!”

Beyond honored by this request, our Atlanta team flew into action, canceling meetings and out of office team members driving 30 minutes to headquarters, because this is what it’s all about at Booster! We popped the confetti, pumped the music and welcomed Harper back to the Booster family with cheers and high fives.

“You have exceeded our expectations by far. Thank you all so much. Your legacy makes a huge difference and here’s proof of it,” Harper’s dad Travis told the team.

We may not have this type of opportunity with each student we come into contact with, but when given the chance, we will always make celebrating their accomplishments a priority. Our goal is a big one—change the world—and Harper is a wonderful example of what that means to us.

Despite decades of running the same event, which the students loved participating in, when Bill became the PTA president he saw just how labor intensive the fundraiser was and that it didn’t produce that big of a return in funds. So one of his first orders of business was to look at companies that could make their job easier. Booster stood out among the competition, primarily because of the online platform.

“The MyBooster platform has completely changed our ability and the ceiling for what we could provide to the school because it allows us now to generate a lot more money…because of how great the platform is at organizing information,” said Bill.

The PTA’s goal was to provide five or six classrooms with new interactive display boards. Because of their successful fundraiser with Booster, they were able to provide displays for every single room in the school, something they anticipated taking two to three years to achieve! Plus they had additional funds to purchase brand new ukuleles for the music classroom.

Another feature of note that Bill attributes to raising more funds than ever before, is MyBooster’s corporate matching option.

“We didn’t see, when we were shopping around, any other platforms that offered the idea of a corporate match, much less how simple it is,” said Bill. “You click on it and then it gives you specific instructions for how to do the corporate match, which 100% goes to the school.”

Because the school’s annual fun run now brings in so much of the funds the school needs to achieve its goals, the PTA does not need to ask parents repeatedly throughout the year to donate. This was one of Bill’s main missions as PTA president, to take as much of the financial burden as possible off of the parents.

At Governor’s Ranch Elementary Bill will leave a legacy of simplifying fundraising efforts while raising more for their school. The transformation of the PTA’s fundraising showcases the power of innovation and the potential for positive change when individuals like Bill take the initiative to make a difference in their community. With this continued dedication, the students at Governor’s Ranch Elementary can look forward to an enriched learning environment for years to come.
